چکیده

Hypothesis / aims of study Neurogenic Dysfunction of the bladder in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients is a serious problem in all patients leading to significant morbidity, and regarded as an indicator of neurologic conditions in spinal cord after injury. In this study, we investigated the time-related effect of Granulocyte Macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) on urodynamic parameters including pressure/volume and detrusor overactivity (DO) in rats with SCI.

Urodynamic Parameters in Spinal Cord Injury-Induced Neurogenic Bladder Rats after Stem Cell Transplantation: A Narrative Review

Neurogenic bladder (NGB) secondary to spinal cord injury (SCI) is accompanied with several complications such as urinary tract deterioration, urinary incontinence, and consequently lower quality of life (QoL), significant morbidities, and occasionally death. Current therapeutic methods have some side effects and there is no treatment for the upper urinary tract injuries. Stem cell therapy is a ...

Urodynamic effects of intravenous and intrathecal administration of E-series prostaglandin 1 receptor antagonist on detrusor overactivity in rats with spinal cord injury.

AIMS We examined the effect of an E-series prostaglandin 1 (EP1) receptor antagonist on bladder activity using a rat model of spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS Female Sprague-Dawley rats were used. Six weeks after spinal cord transection, conscious-filling cystometry was performed. We evaluated the urodynamic parameters before and after intravenous (0.1 and 1.0 mg/kg) or intrathecal (0.1 and ...

Presence of phosphodiesterase type 5 in the spinal cord and its involvement in bladder outflow obstruction related bladder overactivity.

PURPOSE Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors were recently introduced as a new treatment option for men with lower urinary tract symptoms. Safety and clinical effectiveness are well documented but the mode of action is still unclear. We determined and compared the expression of phosphodiesterase type 5 in the spinal cord of normal (sham operated) rats and rats with partial urethral obstruction i...

Experimental animal models of neurogenic bladder dysfunction.

Neurogenic bladder is related to various types of neurogenic disease and injury, including cerebrovascular accident, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, and Parkinson's disease. The results of urodynamic study show different types of detrusor and sphincter function. According to these urodynamic results, the physician decides on a treatment plan, such as anticholinergics or alpha-blockers. In the ...

Neuroprotective effects of atomoxetine against traumatic spinal cord injury in rats

Objective(s):Spinal cord injury (SCI) often causes serious and irreversible neurological deficit leading to disability or impairment of normal physical activity. Atomoxetine, a selective norepinephrine transporter (NET) inhibitor has gained much attention in the field of the neurodevelopmental disorder, but its effect on SCI has not been evaluated. The present study has been undertaken to inves...
